Symposium Participant:Donna McMenamin

Hi yall, when I saw the announcement for this Symposium, I jumped right in as drawing/sketching workshops are far and few between and I am nothing, if not a drawing maniac. Just ask anyone who knows me. I think it has something to do with never drawing as a child, or even adulthood, until about 5 years ago. I started with one digital art class at my community college (Tucson, AZ) and four years later I could draw on my computer. But all of that digital art started to look alike to me and I wanted to really learn how to draw, so I began buying every drawing/sketching book I could find. (Did I mention I am a little compulsive?--just ask anyone who knows me) My drawing mania really got kicked into a higher gear after I attended Dalvero Academy's 10 day Disneyworld drawing bootcamp in the summer of 2009. It was hot and exhausting, but Ronnie (Veronica Lawlor) is fantastic. Looking forward to studying under her again in Portland as well as all of the other pros.

I prefer to draw people, but will attempt anything. My landscapes and buildings suck, but hopefully I will get help with that in Portland. You can see some of my sketches thru my flickr site where I am A.K.A. donnamcm.

I use a Pelikan fountain pen with Platinum Carbon Ink (waterproof), Art Spiral Sketchbooks (cuz they take watercolor beautifully), Flexi-Sketchbooks (great for NeoColorII, lays perfectly flat for spreads), watercolors, neocolors, chalk pastel pencils, intense, watercolor pencils--well ok, I use it all. My sketchbag is huge and says "Attitude Included." Do I have an attitude?--I don't know, just ask anyone who knows me.

See ya in Portland.

  1. Hi Donna! I like you already. I'm a sketching maniac myself. I've always enjoyed your colorful, whimsical sketching style on flickr (and your sister's too!)
