I began sketching again last October after a 35 year interruption. My boss wanted to learn to draw so I took a sketching class with her. Our teacher, Faye Castle, told us about Urban Sketchers and sketch crawls and wanted to start one on Whidbey Island. A few of us started meeting every Wednesday to sketch and and set up a blog, calling ourselves Whidbey Island Sketchers. There's nothing very "urban" about Whidbey, but there's plenty to sketch here. We have about 13 regular members and a lot of drop-ins. It's the most fun I've had in decades! Like I tell the group, I feel like I've finally found "my people." I've picked right up where I left off 35 years ago.
In real life, I'm the business manager for a well known ESL textbook author who lives here on Whidbey Island. I'm trained as an accountant and handle all business, financial, legal and marketing matters, including our website, AzarGrammar.com. I live on 15 wooded acres with my husband, dog, elderly cat and abundant wildlife.
I'm very excited to be going to Portland to participate in the symposium and meet some of my favorite sketchers from flickr.
Here are some of my sketches. More at my flickr account.
